Having been involved in the kennel business for many years, Interlude has come to expect certain questions from customers, especially those boarding their pets for the first time. We thought it would be helpful to those visiting the website to have a list of the most frequently asked questions and their answers. If your question is not answered here, please do not hesitate to call us.
1. When my dog gets home from the kennel, he acts very hungry and thirsty. Should I feed him and give him water right away? & or did he eat and drink while boarding?
NO do not give your dog water or food immediately upon returning home. Your dog will be happy and very excited to see you. Excitement causes your dog to pant more. Panting will make your dog thirsty. Offer a few ice cubes instead of a bowl of water. It is very important for you not to feed or give large amounts of water for at least 3 hours upon returning home. Gulping water and/or food may cause digestive problems such as vomiting, diarrhea, or bloat. Bloat is fatal if not treated immediately as an emergency. See the pamphlet above titled "Let's talk About Bloat" *if your pet in panting unusually or for no reason especially at a rest and has not been excited recently, you should call your veterinarian as this could be the sign of pain or an underlying endocrine disease.
2. My dog sleeps for a day or two after coming home from the kennel. Is this normal?
Yes, this is normal. There is more activity throughout the day here at the kennel. Even though your dog sleeps at night, he/she is awake most of the day, instead of curled up on your favorite sofa at home, while you are at work.
3. What does the boarding charge include?
Your boarding charge covers the basic care of the animals; this service includes but is not limited to: feeding, watering, keeping the pets area clean and comfortable and daily doses of TLC.
4. Do I need to bring my dog's food and bowls?
No, unless your dog is on a prescription diet, has food allergies, or has a restricted diet. Interlude provides Pedigree Mealtime dry dog food. We also supply all food and water bowls.
5. Should I bring a bed?
Interlude supplies all dogs with ample bedding. Due to the volume of laundry we do daily, we prefer you do not bring bedding from home. If you decide to bring something from home with your scent, we suggest an old towel in case it is not returned to you. Due to the volume of laundry, we cannot guarantee the return of bedding items.
6. Are there other services or activities that I can sign my pet up for?
Yes, playtime and busy bones are the two most requested activities. Please visit our playtime and extras page for more information
7. My pet requires oral medications, wound treatments, or daily/weekly injections. Can you accommodate pets such as these?
Yes, our staff has been trained in giving medications and doing treatments on pets. Injections either for allergies or diabetes will be done by a former trained veterinary technician or a trained senior staff member.
8. Are the kennels air conditioned and heated during the appropriate months?
Yes. All of our kennels are fully heated during the winter months and fully air conditioned during the summer.
9. What size are the kennels?
Most kennels are 4 feet by 6 & 4 by 8 feet. We do have some larger kennels for multiple pet families.
10. Is someone on the property all the time even when the office is closed?
Yes. Someone is always on the property 24 hours a day.
*The kennel is fully staffed on weekends and Holidays as the pets still need to be taken care of, however; when we are closed there are no office staff in the office when the office is closed.
11 Can I see the kennel?
Yes, we encourage all pet owners to see the kennel facilities. No two kennel facilities are alike so we encourage people who are looking around to visit many kennels before choosing one. Ask questions and make sure you are comfortable where your pet is staying before leaving him or her. 12. My dog was just groomed. Is it customary to tip the groomer?
Tipping is left to your discretion. Grooming is a skill just as your hairdresser has a skill. Some customers tip their hairdressers, just as some customers tip their groomer.
